[the entire point of having a clinic out here is to treat patients-- no kidding! it isn't as though he's exactly happy to do it, but he'd rather do it if someone is too afraid to go to the hospital, McCoy would rather help if he can.
he just hates when his patients act like idiots. one Miss Valentine, for example. her and her crew of misfits had been in and out of the clinic, hardly gave McCoy much trouble, not even the foot fungus the little one had gotten once, but Miss Valentine could get a little rough when she's stubborn.]
If you don't sit still, I'm going to knock you out.
[so Bones has to use his most gentle bedside manner]
[ the entire point of going to a clinic is to get fixed up and then sent on your merry way in a timely manner. at least that's the impression faye was given (despite rarely ever going to a clinic, let alone a hospital, when jet could do it for free, et cetera). apparently that's not the case when you're dealing with a crochety old man who makes it a habit of scolding her for being a so-called 'idiot' (she begs to differ). ]
Just try it, old man, and I swear I'llβ
[ faye winces, doing exactly what bones advised her not to do and refusing to sit still. she settles back down in the seat with clear reluctance, huffing impatiently. the bounty she was after nearly got her with a stray bullet. instead, it grazed her side, but it wasn't just any mild graze. a few millimeters more and this would be a far more serious wound. it was her fault for not paying attention. for letting something distract her at the wrong moment, giving the bounty the opportunity to escape and almost taking her out in the process. she's mad at herself for it and it shows in the permanent crease forming between her brows. ]
Ugh... will you hurry up and patch this already? I need to get back out there.
Go back there and what, get a matching hole on your other side?
[McCoy is in no more hurry than necessary, except with a zinger of a quip to that one. at her hiss, he's tugging a tray on wheels closer to her bedside, swiftly tugging gloves on in turn. but he's no barbarian, this is the future, after all. it might not be equipped with a biobed and any fancy sickbay from a starship, but he's got a scanner and a dream. and patience]
If you don't want to tear anything, sit still, like I said. Are you allergic to anything? I'm going to give you a hypo for the pain.
My survival depends on bagging this guy. [ a little dramatic... ] I wasn't the only bounty hunter after him.
[ ... and now she might as well kiss that money goodbye. the guys will never let her hear the end of this.
faye eyes (glares at) bones; eyes the little tray he wheels up knowing this pain is about to get worse before it gets better. she huffs out a short but noticeably loud breath of air and quickly learns that, too, hurts somehow? ugh. after another pained wince, ]
No, I'm not allergic to anything. I don't think. Is hypo a drug or something?
[if Faye expected any sympathy for that, she isn't going to get it. just that grumpy face, those blue eyes peering into her, through her, unfazed by her own annoyance]
And your other shipmates can't get it? You wouldn't able to catch him with this hole here.
[he doesn't prod it, her moving around is doing enough of that, but he does lift a brow at her]
It's an injection. One for the pain, another for infection....should probably look at your immunization record one of these days. But that's good to hear.
[he gets them ready, tapping gently at the skin of her neck with a thumb]
[ she would love the sympathy but she's not getting that here, obvious in the flat expression bones carries in the face of her woes. oh well. faye sighs, and answers his first comment with a sort of air of reserve. ]
They might, even though they're completely hopeless... but I wanted to be the one to catch him first. They never split the bounty fairly.
[ she's starting to sound like a petulant child - which only further presents itself when she flinches at his hand and leans away, looking at him like he just stole her candy. ]
[she's a grown woman (slightly older than McCoy, not that he knows), and she's absolutely acting like a big child. he can't say much on bounty hunting, as it's outside of Starfleet's usual game, but he knows Faye wants what she thinks she earns.
patiently waiting for her to stop yelling, he eyes her]
I was going to, since it'll be easier and quicker to take effect. It won't hurt more than a pinch. But if you'd rather have it in your tush...
[ she's an OLD LADY acting like a CHILD. let's all collectively shake our heads. ]
Oh no no no. You are definitely not getting anywhere near my ass with that thing. I'll make damn sure of that.
[ instinctively, faye has clamped a hand over her neck like she's fending off bloodsuckers, pointing her finger at him with the other. one wrong move and pain licks up her side, sharp and burning, making her jerk so dramatically that her hand slips from her neck. stab her now, she won't see it coming!! ]
[once again, McCoy is a patient man when it comes to the stubborness of his patients-- and when she has that knee-jerk reaction, he sticks the hypo in her neck and injects the meds, for the moment not worrying about whether she made her wound worse.
in a few moments, she should feel more or less pain-free.]
Perhaps if you watched your ass better, you wouldn't be in here, young lady. I'm sure your coworkers will be okay. Don't worry about them so much.
Ack! [ comes the undignified noise as the hypo makes contact with her neck. the initial pinch of the needle causes faye to tense up, and she waits for bones to pull away fully before her hand rushes back to close over her neck. ] βthe HELL?
[ occasionally checking for bleeding, of course, because she's just been STABBED, and now she's going to DIE from BLOOD LOSS, this is the man right here officer!! faye is thinking all of this but there's no doubt the panic has briefly spread across her face by now. until the medicine starts kicking in anyway.
suddenly, there's no more pain, and her body instantly eases back, letting her weight relax on the injured side. oh. that feels so much better.... ]
Worried about who? [ a delayed response, sounding a little tired. ] Them? Yeah right.
[technically he's an officer...of starfleet, anyway, when the time calls for it. either way, McCoy is way too smug as he watches Faye's face journey, and optimally satisfied once it's clear the med has kicked in. moving along again, he grabs another tool, non-needle this time, and it hums as he holds it just above her wound]
They're a pain in the ass, I'm sure. Bring enough trouble to ruin your entire day....but they're still your team. I won't even say the F word. [family, not fuck, so much]
